TotalEnergies starts up a plastics recycling plant in Seine-et-Marne
On March 19, TotalEnergies commissioned France's first chemical plastics recycling plant at its Grandpuits platform in the Seine-et-Marne region. The unit has a processing capacity of 15,000 metric tons a year, and is part of the site's transformation into a "zero-oil" platform.
The plant converts plastic waste from selective collection, which is difficult to recycle mechanically, into synthetic oil. This material is then used as a substitute filler in the petrochemical industry to produce recycled plastics with characteristics equivalent to those of virgin plastics, including for food and medical applications.
In 2023, TotalEnergies signed supply agreements with Citeo and Paprec to secure plastic waste flows for the unit.
