Wooden foam can now replace polyurethane packaging

A large French group has already switched to this solution.

A wood foam is the new invention of Finnish paper group Stora Enso and Swedish industrial packaging manufacturer Nefab. This fiber-based solution can replace polymer-based foams, which are very difficult to recycle and are frequently used for packaging cushioning.

Marketed under the name Fibrease by Stora Enso and WoodFoam by Nefab, this foam, with similar performances to PU foam, is recyclable in the paper/cardboard stream and would generate 4 times less CO2 emissions than PU foams.

Today, this solution is used by several customers, including a large French multinational: Thales.
The manufacturer of electrical systems and service provider to the aerospace, defense, transportation and security industries, was the test site for this foam, and, convinced by these tests, decided to switch to this new packaging solution.

"We know that many companies want to move away from plastics and leave behind their dependence on polymer foams, and now they can. We offer a tested and ready-to-use renewable raw material." says Elisabeth Bergvall, director of Fibrease wood foam at Stora Enso.
