Fujifilm's large format inkjet press in the works

With this 6,000 m2/hr inkjet press, Fujifilm is targeting the world's large sign and display producers.

Fujifilm unveils the press project it is currently working on. Together with Spanish industrial printing and finishing machinery manufacturer Barberán, the Japanese manufacturer is developing a 1.6-meter wide, single-pass inkjet press for high-quality signage and display printing.

With a length of 30 meters, this press whose speed will reach 6 000 m 2 /h is intended for such large volumes. It should be launched on the market at the end of 2023.

"Signage and display, of all the graphic industries, has moved to digital printing the fastest over the past two decades. We've played a key role in that transformation, and with this project we want to take it a step further by supporting the transition to digital for some of the world's largest sign and display production companies." says David Burton, Fujifilm's sales and marketing director for large format inkjet.

The new press will be fed with a new custom Fujifilm ink and primer, developed at Fujifilm's Broadstairs facility in the UK. These consumables will be suitable for all typical sign and display substrates, including plastic and chipboard.

Fujifilm had been in discussions for two years about this partnership with Barberán. David Burton states about them: "They already have a proven single-pass product in the corrugated sector (with the Jetmaster series, Editor's note) , and we have the expertise to help them adapt it to the very different requirements of the sign and display market."

"A number" major sign and display printers in North America and Europe have already signed up to order the machine, according to Fujifilm.
