Pantone launches a color evaluation service to help brands choose packaging

How do you choose between spot color and CMYK printing? Pantone provides the answer with its color profile evaluation program.

X-Rite and its subsidiary Pantone LLC are launching a new service, the Color Profile Evaluation Program, to help brands visualize how their colors will reproduce on different types of packaging materials. This color profile evaluation program

When printing, brands can use either spot color or CMYK. While spot colors are more accurate, four-color process printing is more economical. In both cases, the choice of packaging material, printing technology and ink can considerably influence the final color rendering of a brand in-store.

"Color consistency is essential to brand recognition, as consumers often associate any color difference with product quality." says Cindy Cooperman, X-Rite Pantone's Vice-President of Global Strategic Accounts. "Our Brand Color Assessment Profile aims to mitigate this problem by helping brands understand how color will reproduce early in the design process, even before color samples are sent."

With this program, a colorimetry expert creates a customized report based on the brand's specific color. This report will detail how this color will be reproduced on different packaging media such as plastic bags, folding cartons, labels or overwraps. It will then be easier to make the necessary adjustments with color libraries and digital tools.

"Our aim is to provide brands with the color data and information they need to make informed color choices and reduce the time spent on color adjustments, thereby improving brand visibility and consumer engagement." adds Cindy Cooperman.
