Gallus and HEIDELBERG launch MatteJet: a breakthrough for wine and spirits labels

With Gallus MatteJet technology, HEIDELBERG and Gallus redefine the possibilities of matte finishing for digital inkjet printing. Fast, economical and innovative, this solution meets the needs of high-end labels, opening up a new market for converters and brands.

Traditionally, digital inkjet printing offered a glossy finish, which posed a problem in sectors where a matte aesthetic is preferred, such as wine and spirits labels. Until now, these sectors have had to use traditional printing methods or incorporate costly additional varnishing steps.

The advent of matte finishes for digital inkjet printing opens the door to demanding markets such as wine and spirits labels. These sectors, in search of sophistication, will now be able to benefit from the advantages of digital technology without sacrificing the aesthetics previously achieved only through traditional printing.

Gallus and HEIDELBERG unveil MatteJet technology. This process makes it possible for the first time to obtain a high-quality matte finish directly on an inkjet press, without the need for additional post-processing equipment, thus meeting the expectations of wine and spirits brands.

Integrating matt finishing into the digital process reduces costs and increases productivity, eliminating the need for separate finishing machines or additional varnishes. For converters, this means saving time and simplifying operations, while accessing new markets with high-quality labels. Thanks to the flexibility of digital printing, short runs, personalization and on-demand printing become more accessible, optimizing the profitability of short runs.

Developed at the Gallus Experience Center in St. Gallen, this technology is part of a collaborative innovation approach. The center, due to open in 2023, is dedicated to the research and development of solutions for the label and packaging industry.

Gallus MatteJet technology embodies our long-term mission to bring an intelligent, connected future to printing," says Gallus CEO Dario Urbinati.

One of the major advantages of MatteJet is its integration into Gallus' System to Compose concept, which enables converters to modulate and adapt their production line to suit their changing needs. The flexibility of this system means that printing units can be added or removed as the market changes, making the technology more accessible to companies of all sizes.
