The switch to corrugated packaging is part of E. Leclerc's drive to reduce the use of plastics in its stores. Leclerc stores. The French AGEC law, aimed at limiting plastic packaging for fruit and vegetables weighing less than 1.5 kg, has prompted retailers to review their packaging practices. Hinojosa Packaging Group has therefore designed a 100% recyclable and compostable tray, exclusively for E. Leclerc, enabling fragile fruit to be packaged in an environmentally-friendly way.
Overcoming logistical constraints
The tray is designed to hold one kilogram of apricots, peaches or nectarines. It is compatible with IFCO 6413 trays for optimized stacking and transportation. Top flaps allow temporary closure for storage, while its flat surfaces facilitate labeling and offer maximum product visibility. Its resistance to the refrigeration supply chain means that fruit can be stored in optimum conditions without compromising quality. This compromise between practicality and respect for environmental requirements represents a challenge that Hinojosa has succeeded in overcoming.
A sustainable alternative to plastic
The main challenge in designing these trays was to find an alternative to plastic while guaranteeing effective protection for the fruit. By choosing corrugated cardboard, Hinojosa has made a commitment to sustainability, without compromising the strength needed to protect products during transport. Fully recyclable and compostable, this packaging meets the expectations of consumers and legislators, while reducing the environmental footprint of the plastic trays traditionally used.
