Drewsen Spezialpapiere, a leading German manufacturer of security papers, printing and packaging papers and technical papers, acquires the English company Portals Paper, producer of high-security papers for passports and other identity documents.
A strategic alliance to counter the rise of counterfeit goods
Against a backdrop of ever-increasing counterfeiting threats, the acquisition of Portals Paper by Drewsen Spezialpapiere, which generates 215 million euros in paper sales, is a concerted response to these challenges. With complementary technologies, such as the Fourdrinier and Cylinder Mould paper machines, this merger is set to offer a wide range of security features for paper solutions that will guarantee "varied and extremely high levels of protection against counterfeiting" in the identity papers market.
Maintaining the identity and independence of both entities
Drewsen and Portals will retain their operational autonomy and specialization. Each will continue to focus on its respective market segments.
Portals Paper, based in Bathford, Somerset, has a tradition dating back to 1711. With its expertise in the manufacture of passport papers, the company retains its ability to produce locally, while benefiting from the resources and financial strength of Drewsen Spezialpapiere.
Ross Holliday, Director of Portals Paper, states: "This partnership offers new growth opportunities, allowing us to expand our product offering while continuing our successful operations at the Bathford paper mill."
