Fire at the Gemdoubs paper mill in Novillars
A fire broke out on the night of January 29th to 30th at the Gemdoubs paper mill in Novillars (Doubs), which produces PPO. Alerted at around midnight, the Doubs fire department quickly brought under control two separate fires covering 10 and 20 m2 in a pit. The fire-fighting operation, carried out with a hose, avoided any interruption to operations, and no lay-offs were envisaged.
GF Smith unveils new visual identity
British creative paper merchant GF Smith is revamping its brand image to better reflect its international development and commitment to the creative community.
The new identity is built around a revamped logo featuring a stylized smile, custom typography and a color palette inspired by its emblematic Colorplan range.
The rebranding also accompanies the launch of the GF Smith Charitable Trust, dedicated to supporting arts education. A new website and brand film complete the transformation.

Seda Packaging Group launches EcoFit, a recyclable paper lid
Naples-based Italian food and foodservice packaging solutions provider Seda Packaging Group unveils EcoFit, a paper lid designed to replace plastic models. Compatible with both hot and cold beverages, it guarantees secure closure and limits the risk of leakage.
Made from certified renewable fibers, recyclable in the paper stream and available in a compostable version, EcoFit boasts a reduced carbon footprint and optimized water consumption throughout its production cycle, assures its manufacturer. It integrates with Seda's double-wall cups, offering a complete packaging solution.
41 employees win medals at Chirat printing works
At a ceremony on January 24, 2025, 41 employees of the Chirat printing works in Saint-Just-la-Pendue in the Loire region were awarded the médaille du travail, in recognition of their commitment to the company. 17 employees were honored for 20 years of service, 9 for 30 years, 12 for 35 years, and 3 received the grand gold medal for 40 years of service, according to Le Progrès . The directors, Jacques and Auguste Chirat, praised the loyalty and hard work of all the recipients.
Domino unveils its Mx350i-eP pallet labeling system
Domino Printing Sciences launches the Mx350i-eP, an all-electric pallet labeler optimized to reduce energy consumption (by up to 40% compared with the previous generation) and industrial air consumption (by up to 50%).
Designed for easy integration into logistics lines, it should improve operator safety and efficiency thanks to an applicator arm and collision detection system. The labeling system is also 60% lighter and 40% more compact than previous models, thanks to the elimination of safety guards.
Domino will be presenting this new product at the CFIA in Rennes from March 4 to 6, 2025.
Stratus Packaging recruits 21 people
Printed label manufacturer Stratus Packaging is recruiting to support its growth. The group with 460 employees at 7 sites in France, a subsidiary and a production site in Switzerland, and sales of 90 million euros, is looking for 21 employees, including 19 in the Rhône-Alpes region, to strengthen its production, logistics and sales teams.
Open positions include printers, setters, packaging and converting line operators, warehousemen, prepress operators, sales people and workshop managers.
Canon imagePrograf Pro-310, the new A3+ pigment photo printer
Canon launches the imagePrograf Pro-310, an A3+ inkjet printer equipped with 10 LUCIA PRO II pigment inks, for photographers. It offers excellent color retention and UV resistance for up to 200 years of archival use (with Canon Photo Pro Platinum paper), according to Canon.
Compatible with a variety of substrates, it ensures deep blacks on fine art paper and even brilliance on photo paper thanks to Chroma Optimizer ink. A special coating reduces micro-scratches. Its packaging uses recycled materials to limit the use of plastic. It will be available from March 2025.
Pringles revives retro video game aesthetics with Super Mario
Pringles is teaming up with the world of Super Mario video games for a campaign inspired by the gaming culture of the 1990s. The franchise's iconic characters, including Mario and Luigi, will appear on Pringles tubes in a range of flavors from this month onwards.
A limited edition "mystery flavor" will also be launched in silver packaging, featuring the famous mystery block from the Super Mario universe. Consumers who correctly identify the flavor will be entered for a chance to win a trip to New York.
Ibis opens a demonstration center in the UK
British finishing equipment manufacturer Ibis Integrated Bindery Systems has announced plans to open a demonstration center in High Wycombe, near London, in the second quarter of 2025.
This initiative accompanies an increase in orders, notably for the production of extended-content booklets, as well as for the automated production of examination papers, including fully automated printing, finishing, packaging and distribution lines in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It also meets growing demand for trials and demonstrations from prospects and customers following the addition of new machines such as the new Smart Label binder, which will be presented at Hunkeler Innovation Days .
