Smart Material Handler, the module that lightens the handling of cutting materials

Media loading and unloading becomes semi-automatic with Kongsberg PCS's Smart Material Handler module. Designed to integrate with the C and Ultimate cutting tables, it can halve the manpower required for this operation.

Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (PCS) launches Smart Material Handler (SMH), an automation device designed to facilitate the handling of rigid and flexible media on Kongsberg's C and Ultimate range of digital cutting tables.

The SMH acts as a buffer between the various production stages.
Comprising two modules - a loading table and an unloading table designed as lateral extensions of the main bed - this new equipment enables new sheets to be loaded while the table continues to cut the previous one, thus eliminating downtime during signage, packaging or display applications.

Labour requirements halved

According to information supplied by the manufacturer, this system would enable a single operator to take on tasks previously carried out by two, with a 50% reduction in manpower requirements for these operations.

The loading table can be equipped with an Underside Camera (USC) that automatically detects the print marks. This enables precise repositioning of the substrate without manual intervention. While this module is primarily designed for rigid substrates, it can be quickly replaced by a reel-feed system, enabling rapid changeover to flexible materials, as production needs dictate.

Another point to note is that the device can be used in either landscape or portrait orientation, depending on the layout of the workshop and the formats to be processed.

On the opposite side, the unloading table is inclined at 12 degrees. Integral stops hold the finished material in position, preventing slippage or damage as it exits the cutter. This system minimizes the risk of stacking errors.
