A 3D printer that uses food waste
Developed by two MIT graduates, Biru Cao and Yiqing Wang, the FOODres.AI printer rethinks the uses of 3D printing on a domestic scale. Its compact design transforms food waste into objects such as coasters, containers or decorative elements via a fully automated 3D system.
Thanks to integrated AI, it identifies printable materials, suggests suitable "recipes", generates tool paths and pilots the manufacturing process without technical intervention. Winner of an iF Design Award and an A'Design Award, this innovation is part of a new generation of solutions combining sustainability, automation and distributed design.
