Armor-Ilmak, an Armor Group subsidiary specializing in thermal transfer ribbons, announces the launch of AWR XL. This new wax ribbon is designed for flat-head printers and labeling applications in logistics, shipping and distribution.
AWR XL is distinguished by its totally solvent-free formulation and the use of a PET film just 3.35 ?m thick, touted as the thinnest on the market.
The latter feature enables the length of the rollers to be increased, thus reducing the frequency of replacement on the machines. The Nantes-based manufacturer claims a 40% reduction in printer uptime.
What's more, the film's thinness means a 26% reduction in plastic waste from used ribbons. The manufacturer also claims a saving of 830 g of CO2 per roll.
This launch is in line with Armor Group's Imp'Act 2030 strategic plan, and more specifically with the "doing better with less and circular" pillar.
Avery Dennison uses the AWR XL with its AD RDX MC label. The aim is to combine two lightweight technical solutions, with claimed benefits in terms of productivity and environmental impact.
"With this ultra-thin label, which is lighter than a standard paper label, Avery Dennison is pursuing the same objectives as Armor-Ilmak: to reduce the amount of materials consumed and waste, and to improve the product's environmental footprint, while bringing benefits in terms of productivity. Our two products combined also offer a perfect printing experience" says Christian Lefort, General Manager of Armor-Iimak.
Armor-Ilmak claims a 40% share of the global thermal transfer ribbon market, with 2.3 billion square meters manufactured by 2024. Armor-Ilmak employs 1,500 people worldwide at 15 slitting sites and three coating units.
