Siegwerk closes its Swiss production facility in Bargen. The German manufacturer of printing inks is transferring the activity to Turkey, according to information published by the local media Ajour .
It will maintain its technological activities in Switzerland. Production will now be concentrated in Tuzla, on the outskirts of Istanbul, where the Group already has industrial facilities. This decision entails the loss of over 100 jobs. A redundancy plan has been negotiated for the employees concerned.
Siegwerk justifies this reorganization on several economic grounds. According to Siegwerk Ajour these include high production costs in Switzerland, the impact of the strong franc on its competitiveness, and falling demand in certain printing ink markets.
Turkey was also chosen for geographical reasons. Siegwerk identifies its main growth drivers in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. From Tuzla, the Group believes it can supply these markets in the most cost-effective way.
In 2020, the Tuzla plant benefited from a major modernization plan which increased production capacity by 20% and also created 20 new jobs, bringing the total workforce to 130.
