300 people at Heidelberg Days in Wiesloch
On April 15 and 16, Heidelberg welcomed some 300 international customers to its Home of Print site in Wiesloch, Germany, for Heidelberg Days.
The event was dedicated to the manufacturer's solutions in the packaging, commercial printing and digital printing segments.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 10, dedicated to production solutions for packaging and labels.
UniLeaf, an acrylic resin-free flexo ink
Siegwerk launches UniLeaf, a new water-based ink for flexographic printing on paper and board, formulated without acrylic resin.
Based on polymers derived from biobased raw materials, this ink has been formulated to increase the proportion of biogenic carbon in the ink, while integrating with existing manufacturing processes. According to the German manufacturer, industrial trials have demonstrated a further 50% reduction in carbon footprint compared to its UniNature range, as well as a reduction of over 15% in drying energy consumption.
Printing error: ballots declared valid
In Saint-Brice, Seine-et-Marne, the Administrative Court of Melun has validated a ballot paper that had initially been declared invalid in the first round of municipal elections held on March 15.
The newsletter featured a barcode added automatically by the printer, partially masking a name.
The court ruled that it did not constitute a prohibited distinctive sign and that it clearly expressed the voter's wishes. After rectification of the results, the two lists were tied at 178 votes each, requiring a second round of voting.
Stora Enso ordered to pay wages after strike in 2024
Stora Enso will have to pay unpaid wages to 186 employees at its Oulu mill in Finland following strikes in the spring of 2024, according to a lower court ruling.
The court ruled that the employees were entitled to their wages during the week in which production was interrupted. The group had suspended payments during industrial action affecting the transport and municipal sectors in particular.
The court ruled that the employees concerned had not participated in the strike, and that their union had not been involved in the conflict. The compensation awarded ranges from a few hundred to around 2,000 euros per employee.
An association to preserve the memory of the Sorel-Moussel paper mill
Founded in the 19th century by the Firmin-Didot family, the former paper mill at Sorel-Moussel in the Eure-et-Loir region of France continues to arouse affection. An association, the Amis de la papeterie de Sorel-Moussel (Friends of the Sorel-Moussel paper mill), has just been set up to preserve and promote the memory of this industrial site, which once housed a type foundry and a paper mill. After the paper mills closed in the 1970s, the building was put to various uses before being abandoned in 1986 following two fires.
From now on, the association wants to collect testimonies and documents to safeguard this local industrial heritage and ensure its transmission.
Lecta commissions new metallization line
Paper manufacturer Lecta has commissioned a new metallization line at its Leitza plant in Spain, developed in collaboration with Swiss manufacturer Bosbt.
Called Leitzaran, the system is based on a 2,450 mm Expert K5 model specially configured for the Spanish papermaker.
This is the third Bobst metallizing machine to be installed on the site. The new line incorporates the Bobst iMA (Intelligent Metallizer Assistant) automatic control system, as well as AluBond technology, designed to improve the adhesion of the aluminum layer and the barrier properties of the paper.
The equipment can handle widths of up to 240 cm and weights from 35 to 300 g/m². The installation is designed to increase production capacity, process consistency and industrial flexibility for flexible packaging and wet-glue label applications.
