A 235-ton pulper at DS Smith's Lucca paper mill
Paper group DS Smith continues to modernize its Lucca mill in Italy with the installation of the PM3 paper machine, a major project designed to increase production capacity for recycled paper for packaging and reduce CO2 emissions.
A major milestone has just been reached: the commissioning of the new drum pulper. At 48 meters long and weighing 235 tons, this is the largest drum ever delivered by Andritz. The Drum Pulper is capable of processing up to 1,650 tons of pulp per day.
Manufactured in China, it took ten weeks to transport by sea, followed by three months of assembly.
To ensure the line's start-up and reliability, a three-year maintenance contract has been signed with Valmet. The agreement also includes support for training local teams.
Double certification for Riccobono Group's Lenglet Imprimeurs
The rotogravure and offset heatset sites of Lenglet Imprimeurs, located in Hauts-de-France and belonging to the Riccobono Group, have just been awarded European Ecolabel certification.
This official recognition by the European Union attests to compliance with strict environmental criteria, including recyclability, waste management and the limitation of substances of concern.
Lenglet Imprimeurs is now the only French printer to be certified for both rotogravure and offset printing according to this standard. This dual certification is in line with the Group's global strategy in terms of environmental responsibility. Riccobono, which has already held the Positive Company CSR label since September 2024, is continuing to invest in eco-design, energy efficiency and industrial innovation in its various divisions.
Antalis strengthens its position in the UK with The Packaging Company...
The Antalis group, distributor of paper, packaging and visual communication solutions, announces the acquisition of The Packaging Company, a UK player renowned for its custom packaging solutions. Based in the Midlands and founded in 1994, the company has 24 employees and annual sales of £3.2 million (approx. ?3.7 million).
This operation is designed to enhance Antalis' offering in the UK packaging market, by integrating expertise in the design and manufacture of customized solutions. It is in line with the Group's strategy of developing high-performance, sustainable and reusable packaging.
... and in Eastern Europe with the acquisition of Fortuna Digital
Antalis also announces the signature of an agreement to acquire the Fortuna Digital group, specialized in visual communication and digital printing. This operation will enable the distributor to strengthen its presence in Eastern European and Adriatic markets, notably in Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Austria.
Founded in 1990, Fortuna Digital employs 75 people and generates sales of over 19 million euros. The company supplies large-format printing equipment, self-adhesive films and eco-responsible media. Its network of showrooms testifies to its relationships with the industry's leading manufacturers.

Eyeglass scraps transformed into point-of-sale advertising
At Shop Le salon, held in Paris from March 25 to 27, Les Matériaux urbains presented a display unit designed from waste materials from the manufacture of eyewear. Produced on behalf of Nanotera, a manufacturer of POP displays for the retail sector, this furniture illustrates the manufacturer's approach to transforming industrial waste into useful materials for promotional applications.
This project is part of the company's eco-designed POP offering, which specializes in transforming secondary materials into finished products for points of sale.

New generation of INX Europe digital inks
At the Fespa Global Print trade show in Berlin, Germany, May 6-9, 2025, ink manufacturer INX Europe will present four new digital inks developed for inkjet printers equipped with Epson heads. Manufactured in Europe, these inks meet the latest regulatory requirements of the European market and target the flexible signage, labeling and industrial printing segments.
Among the inks presented are an ultra-flexible UV formulation designed for non-woven textile substrates and technical tarpaulins, as well as two UV formulations specific to Epson T3200 and i3200 heads. An eco-solvent ink completes the range, offering good abrasion resistance and durability for applications such as interior signage, coverings and promotional media.
MR renews its Living Heritage Company label
Based in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, the MR packaging company has been awarded its second consecutive renewal of the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label, a distinction awarded by the French government to French companies recognized for the excellence of their industrial or artisanal know-how. Awarded for a period of five years, the label is subject to a full assessment by an independent committee, which verifies the company's compliance with the award criteria.
MR has held the Imprim'Vert label since 2015, has been FSC-certified since 2019 (label renewed in 2024) and is part of the SBTi (Science-based Target Initiative, a project designed to contribute to the fight against global warming through corporate commitment) via the DIAM group. In 2023, the Ecovadis CSR assessment awarded it the highest rating, platinum level.
Fire at Brodard & Taupin under control
In the early morning of Wednesday April 9, 2025, a fire broke out in the workshops of the Brodard & Taupin printing plant in La Flèche, Sarthe, according to Le Maine Libre.
The fire, located on a machine, was quickly contained by the workers on site, who took the initiative of using first response equipment while another employee alerted the emergency services. By the time the fire department arrived, the fire had been extinguished. The site, which belongs to the CPI group, was temporarily evacuated for safety reasons, but production resumed in the morning.
