Fire: the Chauveau printing works (28) on the brink of war

The only offset printing plant in the Eure-et-Loir is expected to start printing again on its own premises before the end of April.

On Thursday, January 9, a accidental fire destroyed the Chauveau printing plant located near Chartres au Coudray in the Eure-et-Loir. The origin of the fire would have started on equipment. The fire is of such intensity that the fire brigade will pour 6000 L/min into the heart of the fire. Today, the company of 43 people is on the rails of a very fast recovery. Jean-Luc Bonnet, the general manager of the printing works, tells us what happened next.

"It's been two weeks since the fire. On the following Monday, we were able to restart thanks to premises loaned by Chartres Métropole, located a short distance from the building that burned down."

A life-saving data backup procedure for the printing industry

All the accounting, quotes and DTP was able to restart: "Fortunately, we had outsourced backup procedures in place for this data."

It details: "For the past two years, the three heads of the accounting, quotation and DTP departments have been backing up the data on hard disks that they take home every night. We're very happy to have done this modest procedure that we've put in place to save ourselves from a piratage?!"

The link always maintained with Chauveau's clients

"And the next day, the switchboard was working. The commercial link was not severed. We installed new computers on Thursday.
From the first week, all the administrative part, estimates and DTP was working. We didn't lose touch with our clients."

Technical unemployment for offsettists

Part of the equipment (routing and shaping) was not affected by the fire, being in a second building. But all the printing machines, including two Komori offset presses, perished. Of the 43 employees, 6 people, the offset workers, are technically unemployed. But the printer supplements the salary (70% of the salary is paid by the state).

The delicate phase of insurance compensation

After facing the emergency, the entrepreneur is now in the second phase: insurance.
Around February 15, insurers will give a fairly precise amount of compensation.
The far-sighted printer is confident, being "Perfectly." insured. "This will make it relatively easy for us to get back on track. We'll be able to buy new equipment, even new ones."
And for the choice of machines, if usually it is the price that makes the difference, this time it will be their availability.

New premises for a restart in April

Finally, the Chauveau printing works should have its final premises during the month of February. Charteres Metropole, anxious to help the only printing works in the department, has proposed a lease for a larger premises, only one kilometre from the old site.
The CEO plans to move there in early March. "I hope to get my first sheets out by April 15 - 30 if there are some machines available in Europe."

A "surge of generosity "unbelievable."

And Jean-Luc Bonnet would like to point out: "As early as Monday, the shopkeepers called us to lend us computers, tables, chairs, premises... And the president of Chartres Métropole helped us find premises. This incredible outpouring of generosity warmed our hearts and gave us a huge boost. Merci?!"
