This guide gives all the necessary indications to develop a barrier mask in an industrial or artisanal way.

Initiatives are multiplying to counter the lack of masks in France and to stem the spread of the SARSr-CoV 2 virus, such as at l'Imprimerie des Hauts de Vilaine in Ille-et-Vilaine or Ultima Displays in Loire-Atlantique. To encourage these new productions and ensure high quality, the French Association for Standardization (Afnor) is making available free of charge a reference document on the manufacture, in series or by hand, of a so-called barrier mask made of textile or plastic. This product, which is less advanced than surgical and FFP2 masks, aims to protect the healthy population, in addition to barrier gestures and social distancing measures in the face of the coronavirus epidemic.

Accessible for download, this document, Afnor Spec - Barrier Masks s, meets criteria validated by nearly 150 experts. It can be used for mass production by textile and plastics companies. It can also help private individuals equipped with materials to start up in the craft industry.

Afnor Spec - Barrier Masks has numerous diagrams and ready-made patterns for professionals and private individuals.
A section is also devoted to the recommendations for the use of a mask, as its performance is highly dependent on its use.
The reference also includes a list of laboratories for companies that would like to test their prototypes before launching large-scale manufacturing.

"Once you have built up your stock of barrier masks designed according to the model, you can make yourself known to companies likely to collect them from you to equip their employees, by referencing the platform masks-barrieres.afnor.org, using geolocation" says the Afnor.
