Kodak launches antimicrobial dry ink

Kodak received a prestigious award from the EDP Association for this ink that inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and mold.

Kodak is expanding its range of specially formulated dry inks for its digital presses ?Kodak Nexfinity and Kodak Nexpress, with a thirteenth product, a transparent antimicrobial ink, which has already been recognized by the European Digital Press Association (EDP).

This ink with antibacterial and fungicidal properties comes in the form of a powder that is applied during production with the fifth group of Nexfinity or Nexpress electrophotographic presses.

"Its antimicrobial agent prevents the final print from being degraded over time, including unsightly discolouration, unpleasant odour and deterioration of the polymer. Its broad-spectrum action inhibits the development of bacteria, fungi and moulds", indicates its manufacturer. The protective layer formed would not disappear over time.
Tests are underway to determine whether this new ink would also be effective against viruses.

For this new dry ink, Kodak has just received one of the prestigious awards given by the EDP association, in the environmentally friendly inks and toners category.

The jurors of the competition organised by the association of 21 European periodicals dedicated to digital printing explain : "Right now, we really need antimicrobial clear ink for high-speed printing. The applications for such a product are numerous, as it can be used for brochures with a glossy finish as well as for POS materials or placemats."
