513 new font families coming soon to Monotype

With this future acquisition, Monotype will gain access to new font families including the famous Futura and Franklin Gothic.

US-based Monotype foundry to acquire German font publisher URW Type Foundry, a subsidiary of Global Graphics PLC.

With this acquisition, Monotype will immediately expand its IP library with 513 new font families, including Corporate S Pro, Futura, Franklin Gothic, URW DIN and Nimbus Sans Global. Monotype already has a library of more than 10?000 fonts, including some of the most famous and widely used fonts, such as the Helvetica, Univers and Frutiger font families.

URW has created many custom or modified fonts for major brands around the world, such as Siemens or Dräger. It has also designed Ikarus typeface conversion software, which was the only professional software for many years.

Global Graphics PLC, which acquired URW in 2015, wants to focus on its core business, which is close to digital press manufacturers, while fonts are mainly sold to designers and major brands. Global Graphics PLC publishes the Harlequin RIP used by HP Indigo.
