Because Drupa has been postponed until April next year, German manufacturer Koenig & Bauer is organising a virtual trade fair from 16 to 25 June in which it will present its latest technological advances. And these are nombreuses?! A look back at the first week of live.
New developments in digital and packaging
After an introduction on Tuesday 16 June by Claus Bolza-Schünemann, CEO of Koenig & Bauer, and Ralf Sammeck, member of the Management Board and Head of Digital Transformation, the presentations started on Wednesday 17 June with the digital rotary press RotaJET for book printers, packaging manufacturers and decorative paper manufacturers. This wide-width inkjet printer meets the market demand for more personalization and shorter print runs.
Also in the field of packaging, the following were presented printing and cutting solutions for corrugated board: CorruCUT (rotary die-cutting), CorruFLEX (flexo printing) and CorruJET (inkjet printing). Designed for manufacturers of corrugated packaging (American cases, secondary packaging), online sales specialists and POS manufacturers, these solutions provide short makeready times, high production speeds and high print quality.


Other innovations were also presented in the areas of printing of banknotes (offset), the coding (artificial intelligence with Kyana for AlphaJET coding systems), metal printing and printing on glass .
The association with the Italian manufacturer Durst
As part of the joint venture between Koenig & Bauer and Durst in inkjet, the two groups presented on Friday 19 June the new features of the SPC 130, a digital inkjet printing system for manufacturers of flat and corrugated board packaging . These new features include a coating unit with more choice in terms of substrates (uncoated and untreated cardboard) and more applications possibles?; as well as special colours to meet the needs of major brands that have special pantones in their graphic charts.

Finally, another great novelty, the launch of the new VariJET 160 for manufacturers of flat cardboard packaging. This hybrid printing system combines offset printing and pack personalisation using jet heads from encre?; high automation, and a 7-colour press for a wide range of colours. After the beta test phase, which will start at the end of 2020, the consumer launch will take place in 2021 after Drupa.
