The Société du Grand Paris has launched an international call for applications for graphic designers and illustrators to create murals in the stations of the Grand Paris.

Comic book, illustration, graphic design and animation professionals from all over the world are invited to apply to illustrate new French stations. The Société du Grand Paris has launched an international call for applications to create frescoes in all the new stations of the new Grand Paris metro. The works are intended to be permanent.

32 stations for the first selection process in 2021

"One artist per station will be assigned the task of creating illustrations that echo the territory served says the call for applications, open until September 15, 2021. In total, 32 stations (and therefore 32 artists) are concerned by the first selection session in 2021.

The winning artists will be responsible for illustrating and representing the territory served by the station and "to establish the link between the underground world of the metro and the urban world explains the competition. The order includes an area of about 50 m2 in each station with a dozen supports located along the platform and integrated into the furniture. In the words of the graphic designer of the Grand Paris Express, who initiated this program, it will be a "a kind of giant comic book".

The artists can choose the techniques used, but will have to return a high definition digital file in a determined format. The Société du Grand Paris will be responsible for manufacturing the supports and printing the works.

Future stations will open to the public between 2024 and 2026. A second session will be held in 2024 for stations that will open between 2027 and 2030.
