More than 2,000 entries from around the world have been submitted to participate in the 2022 Pentawards. Since 2007, the Pentawards have annually recognized excellence in packaging design. Entries are judged by an international jury of packaging design and marketing professionals.
For this 16th competition, the jury awarded the highest prize, the coveted Diamond Diamond Best of Show 2022, to Chinese brand Shenzhen Urban Forest for its Pocket Neck Pillow. The Pocket Neck Pillow is a pocket-sized travel pillow, with an outer silicone package that doubles as storage and an air pump to inflate it.
For the jury, Shenzhen Urban Forest has designed a "cutting-edge aesthetics while prioritizing sustainability and eco-consciousness." The outer packaging, a tree-shaped silicone shell, stands out for its innovation and functionality. It "encourages consumers not to get rid of them and intelligently revolutionizes the way airbags are used."
"The more we played with it, the more it climbed the ladder! says one of the jury members, Jamie Ellul, director and founder of the English design agency Supple Studio . The way it works is great. The design is rigid, it's reusable over and over again while still being compact."
