The printer aims at a more sustainable and CO2 neutral production.

The Drukservice Impressa printing plant in Herentals, Belgium, announced in mid-June that it had installed 754 photovoltaic panels on its 2,600 m2 roof to produce energy with a maximum output of 283 kilowatts.

"The solar installation provides the printing plant with a large part of its annual consumption. This brings us closer to our ambition of a more sustainable and CO2-neutral production." explains the printer.

Drukservice Impressa is also focusing on more energy-efficient machines, electrification of the fleet, and requirements for suppliers and transporters.

"Reducing waste streams, moving in an environmentally friendly manner and recyclability are also part of this project, which is inspiringly named after the colorful but increasingly rare Kingfisher.»

Drukservice Impressa is a merger of several companies and has many specializations (commercial printing, POS, packaging, labels) and employs about 40 people.

Several similar installations in Belgian printing plants

Although not known for its sunshine, Belgium seems to be a good place for photovoltaic panels for printers. In 2020, the Belgian press group IPM, which owns the newspapers La Libre Belgique and The Last Hour/Sports has installed 1000 solar panels on the site of its printing plant in the municipality of Anderlecht in Brussels.

In Kortrijk, employees of the INNI printing company, which specializes in printing admission tickets, have become co-investors in 2,000 high-efficiency photovoltaic panels installed on the company's roof. In 2019, the Graphius printing group, also based in Belgium, announced it was embarking on a major investment project: the installation of 3,350 photovoltaic solar panels worth ?900,000.
