To meet the increased demand for its ColorStream, ProStream and varioPRINT iX inkjet presses, Canon has expanded its production capacity for water-based polymer inks. The Japanese manufacturer has opened a new water-based polymer ink production facility at its Venlo site in the Netherlands.
"Our water-based polymer inks were developed entirely in-house and, like all of our technologies developed in this way, we tested them at our R&D facility," notes Rob Puts, vice president of manufacturing and logistics for Canon Production Printing. Once the inks were proven in the marketplace, we invested in this new facility to meet the growing demand from existing customers and the demand we anticipate."
Highly automated, this 1500 m 2 which employs 30 people and was created from an existing building, produces high-quality water-based polymer CMYK inks for its inkjet production presses.

According to the latest Infosource and Keypoint Intelligence research, Canon has maintained its leadership position in continuous feed inkjet for the 11th consecutive year with a 43% market share in 2020, and the manufacturer has also risen to the top spot in the ultra-high-volume sheetfed segment with a 40% share in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
