Kodak replaces Sonora Xtra-2 with new offset plates

These Sonora UltraXR offset plates achieve up to 250âeuros000Â impressions in traditional sheetfed, and up to 115âeuros000 in UV inks, while their white-light tolerance is five times better than previous generations.

Kodak renews its range of uncoated offset plates with Sonora UltraXR. Produced in Germany, these plates replace Sonora Xtra-2 and Xtra-2 for Newspapers, whose European production is being discontinued.

The new Sonora UltraXR plates complement the Sonora Ultra range already on the market, and are produced at Kodak's Osterode site in Germany.

Kodak claims image stability of up to six weeks when stored in the dark, as well as white-light tolerance five times greater than previous generations. The American manufacturer also claims an image contrast up to four times higher than that of competing products.

The plates are designed to achieve 400âeuros000Â prints on heatset and coldset web offset presses, 250âeuros000Â prints in traditional sheetfed offset and 115âeuros000Â prints with UV inks.

Jim Continenza, executive chairman and CEO of Kodak, said: " Kodak has invested millions in research and development to drive innovation and offer the highest-performing processless printing plates available. Sonora UltraXR plates are the most recent result of these efforts, which the sheetfed and web offset printers in EAMER (Europe, Africa and Middle East, Editor's note) can now benefit from. Above all, our printing customers will receive these improved performance plates at no extra cost".
