Designing the packaging of the future
The Better With Less competition is open internationally from June 1 to December 1, 2022 and is organized by the paper manufacturer Metsä Board. In its second edition, it brought together 28 nationalities to compete. The challenge is to design the best packaging solution using environmentally responsible processes:
- recyclability ;
- renewable sources ;
- resource conservation ;
- waste limitation.
For Ilkka Harju, Packaging Services Director at Metsä Board and chairman of the jury, " euros in the future, the circular economy will guide all consumption. The need for packaging continues to grow, and we must use the potential of design in even more innovative ways to respect our planet's resources. It is necessary to consider the entire life cycle of packaging; from efficient design to easy recycling and targeted reuse, to achieve zero waste. This is a huge responsibility, but also a great playground for innovation ".
The awards of the competition
The seven members of the jury are all recognized experts in the field of packaging design. They expect packaging to be lighter, smarter and more circular. In addition, improving the consumer experience also influences the award nomination.
Three prizes are awarded to the finalists: 10,000, 3,000 and 2,000 euros. The jury also awards an internship at Metsä Board's Excellence Center for design students.
