By taking over its German neighbor, the Muller Martini Group has entered the niche market of single and very short-run book finishing.

Swiss converting machine manufacturer Muller Martini will integrate the German engineering company for short-run book converting machines DGR Graphic on March 1, 2023. In addition to the converting machine and service business, Muller Martini will take over the spare parts business of DGR Graphic on July 1, 2023, and will then provide customer support for DGR customers worldwide.

With one of its three plants located five kilometers from the company's site, Muller Martini, which specializes in the finishing of books, brochures, packaging, mailings, catalogs and newspapers in medium and long runs, quickly reached an agreement with the director and co-founder, Gerd Depping, who wanted to retire, the group of 1,300 employees explains in a statement.

Gerd Depping will remain on the team in an advisory capacity to ensure a smooth transition. The employees of DGR Graphic, whose number is not indicated, will join the Swiss group. The German manufacturer's machines will be added to Muller Martini's portfolio.

Founded in 1998, DGR Graphic was originally dedicated to the manufacture of small format inserters for the production of diaries. Then the company developed a special solution for the German Federal Printing Office to assemble German passports. Today, these are exclusively inserted on the DGR machine, according to the company's website.
The company, whose number of employees and turnover were not communicated, is now specialized in the finishing of single books and very small runs, with soft and hard covers.
DGR Graphic offers three-knife trimmers, staplers, nesters, creasers, a complete book finishing line, a label gluer and control systems, and custom finishing machines.
