Pantone adds new skin colors

The SkinTone 2023 Guide includes 28 new human skin colors, in addition to the existing 110.

The American group specializing in technologies related to color, Pantone, enriches its library of colors dedicated to the skin tone, the Pantone SkinTone Guide. The new color chart includes 28 more shades, bringing their number to 138.

These 28 new shades offer a wider range of darker tones and yellow shades, for Pantone customers looking for specific color matches that represent all the people in the world.

Aimed at the fashion and beauty industries and any other sector where skin color is important, the Pantone SkinTone Guide, launched in 2012, is developed by scientifically measuring thousands of human skin colors with volunteers from around the world.
Colorimetric measurements are made on different parts of the body using an X-Rite portable spectrophotometer, which separates surface and appearance effects to measure only color.
This data was then represented using paper paint to produce scientifically accurate samples for the SkinTone Guide.

Each Pantone SkinTone is composed of four alphanumeric characters. The first two characters correspond to the skin tone, the other two to the brightness of the skin.
The numerical values are available with the Pantone Connect platform.
