Color stability and waste reduction: Fujifilm refines digital printing

Fujifilm unveils the Smart Monitoring Gate, an automated quality control module for its Revoria SC285 and EC2100 digital presses. Designed to maintain color and register consistency on long runs, this solution reduces paper waste and manual intervention, while guaranteeing consistent colorimetric stability.

Ensuring register consistency and color stability in production is an imperative for printers working on long runs. Fujifilm, with its Revoria range of toner presses, now offers a tool that addresses this issue: the Smart Monitoring Gate, an in-line quality control module designed for continuous production environments.

Smart Monitoring Gate, a print unit output module

Positioned after the printing unit, where the paper has recovered its final temperature and dimensions, the Smart Monitoring Gate relies on a double system of scanners - one above, the other below the sheet - to monitor double-sided register and color homogeneity.

The press prints lateral control charts and corner marks, which are continuously analyzed. The system uses data from the last ten sheets to determine whether a correction is necessary, thus avoiding overcompensation.

Automated correction without slowing down production

The Smart Monitoring Gate transmits its measurements directly to the digital press, which adjusts the parameters without operator intervention.

This process is carried out without slowing down the print rate, and with no impact on productivity. Short runs don't necessarily require this level of monitoring, but for long runs exposed to variations in temperature or humidity, the module enables defects to be reduced as soon as they appear.

Fewer manual checks, less paper waste

On average, operators spend several minutes on each manual check. By automating this task, the Smart Monitoring Gate frees up time and reduces the cognitive load on the shop floor.

It also prevents waste due to undetected color drift, particularly when the deviation occurs at the start of the print run. It also reduces paper waste and ink consumption.

Smart Monitoring Gate, compatible with a wide range of media

The module can handle substrates from 52 to 400 g/m 2 the Revoria SC285 and EC2100 presses are equipped with the latest technology for uninterrupted operation, regardless of the web width. Compact, it operates in the background, with low power consumption, meeting the demands of digital toner production in industrial environments.

Towards sheet-wide quality control

While the current version focuses on color registration and density criteria, Fujifilm is already developing a more advanced extension.
An advanced version, launched in Japan, includes a full-sheet inspection system capable of detecting creases, stains or non-conforming fibers. This development paves the way for global quality control, fully integrated into the production flow.
