Vaise Services Plans, towards new markets thanks to their HP printer

With their HP PageWide XL printers, VSP achieves 25% of its sales while spending only 5% on them, and with the latest PageWide XL Pro 5200 model, the Lyon-based company is offering new services, as managing director Vivien Rémy explains.

Located in Lyon in the Rhône region, Vaise Services Plans (VSP) is a small company with seven employees that specializes in the express printing of plans. Founded in 1989, VSP generates a quarter of its sales by printing and shaping plans for architects, developers and design offices.

VSP specializes in express printing of architectural plans

The plans - in black and white (for bricklayers) or four-color process (for electricians, for example) - are printed on standard paper (80 or 90 g/m²) 2 ) up to 1.2 m and folded so that the A4 cartridge is visible.

Vivien Rémy and Thomas Depondt, who have been running VSP for two years, have invested in a new large-format multifunction printer. In January, they replaced their seven-year-old HP PageWide XL 5000 with the more recent HP PageWide XL Pro 5200.

Vivien Rémy explains: "We called on Club Groupe, which was already our supplier, for this new acquisition, which took place last January, because our predecessor used to say that there were great companies everywhere, but what's important is to have the right contacts and the right technicians!"

Powered by up to four spools, the HP PWXL Pro 5200 is a 1,016 mm-wide (40" wide) color printer that prints up to 600 B1/h pages or 400 m 2 of media per hour. VSP also chose HP's online folding solution, which automatically shapes CAD documents using predefined and customized folding programs.

The printer itself selects the right roll of paper for the size of the plan, then folds it so that the cartridge in the bottom right-hand corner is visible once the plan is folded.

The HP PWXL Pro, "a machine that rests"

"It's a machine that rests! When you're printing plans, you can relax, stresses the printer. The plan accounts for 25% of our sales, but in time it represents 5% of our business. HP machines, both the PWXL 5000 and the PWXL Pro 5200, are very fast. Yesterday, for example, we printed and shaped 66 meters of paper, including 22 different plans in three copies, in just under three minutes! It's a machine... insane, reliable and above all synonymous with peace of mind for us."

The HP PageWide XL Pro is also equipped with a scanner. This function generates a significant proportion of the print shop's turnover, particularly for property managers who digitize their plans to save space.

Market diversification with the HP PWXL Pro 5200

And thanks to this change of machine, VSP is opening up new markets. "This new HP PWXL Pro 5200 machine prints coated paper as well as cardboard up to 1cm thick. With this technology, we're going to expand our offering, such as cardboard signage - a more environmentally-friendly medium than plastics and perfectly suited to ephemeral events."

The printer also plans to offer CMYK cardboard personalization, such as for pizza boxes. "And we even made a cardboard game board measuring 1 m x 0.70. And we did it in less than 5 seconds."
