World record: Heidelberg installs the two longest sheetfed offset presses ever produced

These two offset presses, one of which is 42 meters long, print double-sided packaging in a single pass, with varnish and metallization effects.

19 and 20 printing units! German manufacturer Heidelberg has installed the two longest sheetfed offset presses ever produced. These record-breaking presses, custom-built Speedmaster XL 106s, were installed at two European sites of the American packaging group WestRock.

Delivered to WestRock's Tczew plant in Poland, the longest is 42 meters long and includes 20 printing and varnishing units.
The second longest in the world is located in Obersulm, Germany. This Speedmaster XL 106 is configured in 19 groups.

With their large number of printing units, these impressive Speedmaster XL 106 presses are highly flexible and suitable for handling a wide range of packaging applications. They print double-sided packaging in a single pass, with varnish and metallization effects produced entirely inline.

Heidelberg, which specializes in long configurations, has noted a trend towards customized configurations of this type, particularly in the folding carton and label printing sectors. "Indeed, manufacturers of branded products are always looking to create new incentives to buy by offering durable and striking packaging, designed with particularly striking effects." says the group in a press release.

Christian Steinmassl, Head of Packaging at Heidelberg, adds: "Projects such as the one at WestRock involve particularly high mechanical demands and close consultation with the customer. We combine two things: first-class printing press construction and user-friendly operation." prinect Press Center control system.
