Labelexpo 2023: discover MGI's two major innovations

Visitors were able to discover the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, the second generation of the JETvarnish 3D Web, and the MGI Octopus cutting system.

For the first time at Labelexpo 2023, MGI Digital Technology presented two innovations for the reel-to-reel digital finishing market. The French manufacturer exhibited the JETvarnish 3D Web 400 and the Octopus on the MGI-Konica Minolta Alliance stand at the label trade show held in Brussels in September.

The JETvarnish 3D Web, "true disruptive innovation

The JETvarnish 3D Web 400 replaces the JETvarnish 3D Web, the very first reel-to-reel digital finishing press on the market. This second generation press can apply UV selective varnish and hot foil stamping, flat or embossed, in fixed or variable data, in a 100% digital process, in a single pass as opposed to two previously. This is made possible by two inkjet engines that apply two different UV varnishes, one for hot foil stamping, the other for selective varnishing.
The JETvarnish 3D Web 400 reaches 50 m/min (compared with 25 m/min for the JETvarnish 3D Web).

For Edmond Abergel, President of MGI Digital Technology, this single-pass technology for self-adhesive labels and flexible packaging is a "real breakthrough" true breakthrough innovation" . The JETvarnish 3D Web 400 is a machine with reduced environmental impact, with no intermediate consumables, no solvents and no waste," he points out.

"Driven by artificial intelligence and equipped with predictive maintenance, this process optimizes the relationship between productivity and efficiency, while enhancing the performance of production staff." continues the MGI Chairman.

One JETvarnish 3D Web 400 sold

And visitors to the show could hear the MGI bell ringing, marking the signing of a trade show sale by the manufacturer. Reslan Etiket, a printing company specializing in self-adhesive labels based in Istambul and Izmir, Turkey, signed a purchase order for a JETvarnish 3D Web 400 with the Konica Minolta network.

MGI Octopus, a coming revolution in digital cutting

MGI also took advantage of Labelexpo Europe to present, for the first time at an international trade show, the Octopus Web. This die-cutting machine could revolutionize digital label finishing in the years to come.

MGI's Octopus features three independent motors, each equipped not with laser heads, but with four-axis heads fitted with cutting blades. Each motor is capable of performing a specific cutting pattern, from the simplest to the most complex.
"This technological choice reconciles the best of traditional and digital, avoiding fumes and burn marks on certain substrates, for reduced power consumption."

The joint MGI and Konica Minolta stand also featured a 100% digital printing, finishing and die-cutting facility for self-adhesive labels and flexible packaging. " The MGI Konica Minolta alliance is a unique offering in the global label market" says MGI.
