Vinventions offers an inkjet-printable corking solution for wine bottles that could open up new avenues for packaging creativity.

Belgian group Vinventions, a supplier of closure solutions for wine, spirits, olive oil and vinegar, last month launched Vintop Infinite, a screw cap for wine bottles, which the group describes as "a new generation of closures" "revolutionary".

Corking bottles with a screw cap ring is nothing new - the system dates back to 1968 - but digital printing on the Vintop Infinite screw cap is an innovation in its own right. The capsules are digitally printed at Federfin's Tromello site in Italy. And it's here that Vinventions is revolutionizing the market for this closure solution.

A pre-formed printed capsule

The inkjet printer used is a prototype whose make and model are kept secret. Digital printing is not done flat, as the screw caps arrive already formed and without any decoration. Instead, small cylinders are printed on the top and sides, in a single pass and at high production speed.

"We're very proud to be the first screw cap producer to offer digital printing on both the top and the side, which is a major point of differentiation. This responds directly to a market need and enables us to considerably improve our service." says Frédéric Grégoire, Vinventions' Director of Manufacturing and Technology.

A capsule that becomes a marketing medium

The group says it is opening " new avenues for creativity in packaging and brand expression" and enable the creation "specific designs for short, targeted marketing campaigns" .

The possibilities for personalization are endless, with 2,000 colors available and a platform offering original designs. This type of printing makes it possible to produce samples on demand, to produce small quantities if necessary (minimum 1,250 capsules) and to meet very tight production deadlines, transforming the screw cap into a marketing medium.
