XSYS acquires MacDermid Graphics Solutions for $325 million
German group XSYS, a specialist in solutions for the flexographic and letterpress printing markets, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire MacDermid Graphics Solutions, a division of Element Solutions Inc. The transaction, valued at around $325 million, includes several of MacDermid's assets and holdings, and is still subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
This acquisition is in line with XSYS's growth strategy, aimed at strengthening its position in the global prepress printing market, while diversifying its portfolio of solutions.
A change in management at XSYS
In parallel with this acquisition, XSYS has announced a change of management. Oliver Dohn, the group's former CEO, is stepping down after having contributed to the company's strategic development. The Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Alexander Unterschütz to lead the company through its next phase of growth.
Dr. Unterschütz, a former executive at Linde Engineering, has extensive experience in managing transformation projects and developing growth strategies. His background also includes several years as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company.
A strategic fit with MacDermid Graphics Solutions
MacDermid Graphics Solutions, a division of Element Solutions Inc, specializes in the production of photopolymer plates and flexographic printing equipment. The integration of its activities with those of XSYS will extend the geographic reach and complement the product ranges offered. Dr. Unterschütz stressed the importance of this acquisition, which should improve service levels and stimulate innovation within the Group.
An expanded offering for the printing industry
XSYS is renowned for its flexographic and letterpress solutions, with a product portfolio that includes brands such as nyloflex and nyloprint plates, as well as processing equipment and optimization software. MacDermid Graphics Solutions, for its part, is a leading manufacturer of plates and equipment for packaging printing, which is an obvious synergy with XSYS's offering.
