Xerox updates its roadmap to carbon neutrality by 2040

With its 2024 annual report, Xerox confirms its commitment to social and environmental responsibility. The company continues to make progress in its emissions reduction targets, while reinforcing its actions for a more sustainable working environment. Through these actions, Xerox aligns itself with the growing expectations of customers and partners, offering solutions that limit environmental impact.

In its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2040, Xerox is following a demanding roadmap. The company is aiming for a 60% reduction in direct emissions (scope 1 and 2) and a 35% reduction in indirect emissions (scope 3) by 2030, based on 2016 levels. These commitments are major steps towards the goal of zero net emissions, but they also present the company with technical and organizational challenges.

By aligning its practices with strict standards, Xerox shows that implementing these reductions requires rigorous attention to emissions data, both in internal operations and in the supply chain. This involves not only the adoption of cleaner technologies, but also in-depth work to transform industrial processes.

To help reduce emissions, Xerox relies on technological innovation. Its CareAR software, for example, enables remote incident management, reducing the need for on-site interventions. In 2023, this system avoided almost 93,400 engineer trips and saved over 850 tonnes of CO2. This approach both reduces logistics costs and minimizes the environmental impact of technical interventions. This strategy underlines that digitalization and artificial intelligence tools are not only performance drivers for the company, but also play an essential role in achieving sustainability objectives.

Xerox also stands out for its efforts in the areas of sustainability and inclusion. The company was named a leader in the Quocirca 2023 Sustainability Report, and received the title of ENERGY STAR "Partner of the Year" in 2024. These distinctions validate Xerox's practices, while reflecting a commitment to high standards.

At the same time, its commitment to inclusion has been recognized for the 21st consecutive year by the Human Rights Campaign foundation, with a score of 100 for equal rights. These initiatives help create an inclusive working environment, while ensuring diversity in teams and projects.

Beyond the technological and environmental aspects, Xerox devotes significant resources to supporting communities. In 2023, the company invested over $2.4 million in the not-for-profit sector, and its employees volunteered over 42,000 hours. This kind of commitment shows that social responsibility at Xerox goes far beyond rhetoric, translating into concrete action in education and sustainability.

One of the new features of 2024 is the launch of the verified carbon neutrality service. This service is designed to support Xerox customers in their own efforts to reduce emissions. By offering this solution, the company is once again demonstrating its ambition to be a major player in the transition to more environmentally-friendly practices.
