STF Imprimeries overhauls the energy efficiency of its web offset lines. In collaboration with Dutch manufacturer Contiweb, the web offset group is updating seven hot-air dryers at its sites in Toul (Meurthe-et-Moselle), Pacy-sur-Eure (Eure), Reyrieux and Pusignan (Ain and Rhône). The operation is based on the activation of a mode known as Single Burner Operation, enabling the upper combustion chamber to be deactivated when work permits.
Up to a third less gas consumption in production
This mode reduces gas consumption by up to 33âuros¯% in the production phase and up to 50âuros¯% on standby, according to technical data supplied by Contiweb. The hot air generated by the lower chamber alone is sufficient to dry both sides of the substrate, without compromising quality. Switching between modes is performed from the dryersâ?? HMI panel.
This optimization corresponds to an evolution in the order portfolio, as confirmed by José Rodrigues, Technical Director of the âeuros¯ group: "Our print job mix has evolved, and many of them no longer require full drying capacity. In Single Burner Operation mode, we anticipate significant gas savings, reducing our costs and dependence on fossil fuels. This is a double advantage, both economically and environmentally."
An investment amortized in less than a year
The project benefits from support via energy saving certificates (CEE), offered by energy suppliers to support energy performance initiatives. According to STF Imprimeries, this assistance reduces the payback period to less than a year.
Contiweb also provides remote monitoring of modernized equipment, and offers personalized support based on the data collected. The aim is to promote rational use of energy, adapted to draw configurations, at a time when energy sobriety is becoming an economic as well as an environmental issueâeuros?
