Canon announces several upgrades to its Colorado and Arizona large-format printers. These software updates add printing functions and enable the production of new, high value-added applications.
Time-saving Colorado M with new printable materials
On the Colorado M, a 1.6 m wide UVgel reel printer, management of flexible materials has been simplified. A new assisted process reduces loading time by two-thirds to around three minutes, with on-screen guidance.
In addition, two new multi-layer printing modes designed for backlit textile signage have been integrated: matte density (two layers) for neutral renderings, and backlit high density (three layers), intended for point-of-sale tensioned and backlit rush textiles.
The Japanese manufacturer has also doubled the maximum printable thickness from 0.8 to 1.6 mm. And a kit is now available for printing on reinforced magnetic substrates, such as removable plates for vehicles.
Other functions aim to automate sequences: wake-up temperature setting, tension bar for jumbo rolls up to 2,000 m and input/output interface to connect the printer to a finishing module. In the event of an incident, production stops automatically to avoid waste.
New versions of Prisma modules for new applications
Another big news: PRISMAguide XL is now in version 3.5. The Colorado and Arizona-compatible software integrates direct access to Canon resources and reduces the number of steps required for routine operations. It also introduces a library of sample files, notably for the FLXture application, which lets you add a five-layer micro-texture imitating leather, wood or fabric.
As for PRISMAelevate XL, which is compatible with Arizona machines, version 2.2 extends the possibilities of relief printing.
It produces "innovative ink-based applications that create unique, support-free prints" . Canon indicates that "this opens up whole new creative possibilities for applications such as distinctive business cards, key rings and personalized promotional items." This seems to be akin to 3D printing. The software also equips the printing table with a Braille effect function, up to 1 mm high.
The new functions guarantee improved flatness, avoiding distortion caused by ink piling, and ensuring consistent quality on products such as cards, goodies or tactile signage.
Software deployment without hardware intervention
All enhancements for the Colorado M series are available as remotely deployable software updates. PRISMAguide XL 3.5 and PRISMAelevate XL 2.2 are available as separate licenses.
