Canon unveils the Colorado XL, a 3.4 m UVgel printer

Canon enhances its Colorado range with the 3.4-meter XL series in hybrid and roll-to-roll versions. It is designed to meet the speed and versatility needs of signage, decoration, POP and packaging printers.

Canon announces the arrival of "its biggest, fastest and most versatile" series of printers with the launch of the Colorado XL series.

This 3.4-meter machine brings Canon's UVgel technology to the very large format segment. Available in hybrid and roll-to-roll versions, the modular, scalable platform covers applications from signage and point-of-sale decoration to packaging. Print speeds range from 70 m 2 per hour in quality mode up to 211 m 2 per hour in express mode.

The Colorado XL series, a versatile range of print media

The Colorado XL series handles a wide range of substrates, including banners, paper, vinyl and film, as well as heat-sensitive materials, foam board, polypropylene honeycomb, acrylic, aluminum and cardboard composite panels, and rigid substrates up to 52 mm thick, opening up new horizons in decoration and POP.

A wide range of finishes and options

As with the Colorado M series, UVgel technology ensures odorless, immediately dry, scratch-resistant prints. It also offers the FLXfinish+ finish, which combines matte and gloss on the same visual, and the FLXture function, which reproduces the appearance of materials such as leather, wood or textiles.

Canon also offers the option of a second control panel or a double-roller kit, for example.

The new series features UVgel 850 printheads, each with 4,544 nozzles - nine times more than the current standard, as the manufacturer points out. Their design enables two colors to be printed simultaneously, so that only two heads are needed for CMYK, while a third can be added for white.

Nozzle monitoring and compensation are fully automated. Drying is based on FullBeam Curing technology, an LED device covering the 3.4-meter width.

The benefits of UVgel extended to large-scale production

For Géraldine Gaspard, Production Marketing Manager at Canon France, with this machine, "our customers extend their application possibilities to sectors such as packaging and decoration. Providers already specializing in high-end signage and graphics can now exploit UVgel's unique finishes on a large scale, including mixed matte and gloss effects and textured printing, to stand out in these new markets."

The Colorado XL will be available in early 2026. It will complete Canon's large-format offering, which already includes the Arizona flatbed and the UVgel Colorado M roll-to-roll series in 160 cm width.
