Vanguard launches the Cumberland UV flatbed inkjet printer. Designed for signage, point-of-purchase displays, packaging, decoration, and industrial printing applications, this new 156 cm x 320 cm large-format machine boasts the highest maximum speed of any model from the U.S. manufacturer, which is owned by Durst.
"Our customers are constantly looking for ways to increase production, improve efficiency, and take on new projects, all while reducing costs and risks, i "says Jim Peterson, co-founder and chief operating officer of Vanguard Digital" . Cumberland was designed with these needs in mind, combining speed and automation with the flexibility needed to adapt as requirements change."
The main technical advancement involves HyperVQ, a new printhead configuration developed by Vanguard Digital specifically for the Cumberland. It can accommodate up to three rows of Kyocera printheads and, according to the manufacturer, combines speed and quality.
In this configuration, the Cumberland reaches up to 612 m 2 /h in Express mode, or 164 panels per hour. Vanguard also reports up to 306 m 2 /h in Production mode, 197 m 2 /h in Quality mode and 149 m 2 /h in High Quality. It is the fastest machine Vanguard has offered to date.
The flatbed printer prints in CMYK, with optional channels for white and varnish. It supports a wide range of rigid substrates, including cardboard, PVC, vinyl, fabric, wood, stone, brick, and even porcelain.
It uses variable drop sizes that can be as small as 4 picoliters. Movement along the X and Y axes is driven by a magnetic linear drive.
The media are held in place by a numerically controlled vacuum table divided into nine zones. A multi-panel mode also allows for the simultaneous printing of multiple plates.
The Cumberland can be paired with Durst's RIP Produce Automate %E2euros%93 Vanguard Edition and optionally equipped with the Harpeth automation system.
The machine is also based on a scalable architecture, which allows new capabilities to be added later as needed.
