Epsilon Composite and Cometec have a long history together. After more than thirty years of commercial and technical collaboration in the carbon fiber rollers sector, the French company based in Gaillan-en-Médoc in Gironde, where it employs 230 people, has announced the acquisition of its Italian partner Cometec.
For over three decades, Cometec has been manufacturing rollers from technical tubes supplied by Epsilon Composite. Clearly, Epsilon produces carbon tubes using its patented processes (Pullwinding and K1 in particular), and Cometec transforms them into finished âeuros rolls, with machining, assembly and the addition of suitable coatings for fabric converting, flexo and offset printing or film and packaging extrusion machines. Cometec will retain its name and organization with Lucia Sarasini at its head.
"This alliance will enable both companies to offer competitive, high-performance carbon rollers to machine manufacturers, both in Europe and internationally, while providing Italian customers with enhanced local service."
In particular, this operation strengthens Epsilon Rollers, Epsilon's division dedicated to carbon rollers, which produces over 30âeuros000Â pieces per year. These rollers are used in a wide range of printing applications: flexography, heliogravure, offset and digital printing, notably for reel-holder shafts, contact rollers, doctor blade chambers and anilox rollers.
This is Epsilon Composite's first external growth operation. The acquisition was financed out of shareholders' equity, without recourse to debt. It follows a capital increase in 2024, during which Sumitomo Corporation (Japan) became a minority shareholder.
