Speedmaster 2020: innovations that reduce washing times

This new generation of offset machines is equipped with an intelligent programme, a new washing system and new rollers to eliminate up to 50 hours of washing per year.

Heidelberg's newest presses, the Speedmaster 2020, feature numerous innovations. In particular, these new offset presses are equipped with various systems that, according to Heidelberg, significantly reduce washing times, an important factor especially in packaging printing.

The new Wash Assistant software determines the degree of soiling and automatically presets the optimum wash programme.

Heidelberg has also developed new systems for the supply of washing agents. In addition to water, three other components can now be dosed into the inking unit: washing agent for conventional and UV inks, roller protection fluid and deep cleaners.

In addition, a fully automated impression cylinder washing system is now available for the coating unit.

In the case of long perfecting presses with coating units, these new devices save around 50 hours of manual cleaning per year in three shifts.

The blanket washer modules are also lighter. On the Speedmaster XL 106, the reduction is 20 per cent compared to a previous generation press.

Finally, according to the German manufacturer, Lototec inking rollers are ideal for frequent ink changes. After having passed long-term tests, these rollers with their patented surface finish have been validated for series production. "Since the rolls do not need to be re-washed and because of their excellent printing properties, they are increasingly popular, especially in packaging printing."
