The Cx350i, Domino's inkjet solution for secondary packaging printing

This inkjet printer was designed to replace the more complicated, expensive and wasteful labeling systems.

Domino is launching the Cx350i, a piezo inkjet printer designed for carton coding, a solution that can easily replace print-and-apply label systems, according to its manufacturer. The direct-to-carton solution is designed to print GS1-compliant barcodes, lot numbers and other variable data information on secondary packaging such as corrugated boxes or trays.

"Code quality, especially when it comes to barcodes, is one of our top priorities when it comes to secondary packaging printing, says David Edwards, Domino's piezo inkjet product manager. A poor quality barcode may not scan and lead to problems with distributor returns, which can cost manufacturers huge amounts of money in reprocessing and wasted inventory."

The Cx350i, Domino's other choice for labeling

Suffering from poor performance in the past, inkjet solutions for direct printing on secondary packaging are often overlooked in favor of print and apply label systems. But these systems generate higher costs and more waste, Domino points out.

"Direct-to-board printing is a great way for manufacturers to reduce sources of complexity, cost and waste, but until now, there has been a lack of a truly reliable solution on the market, continues David Edwards. We know there is a high demand from customers in this area and wanted to develop a solution that removes any hassle, reprocessing and risk, offering manufacturers a true alternative to labeling."

The Cx350i has been designed to ensure crisp printing at high speeds, even in the face of production line vibration. The optional in-line barcode validation feature further reduces the risk of printing errors and incorrect codes.

The printer requires little maintenance and operator intervention, Domino assures. The self-cleaning print head eliminates the need for manual cleaning, and automatic alerts help resolve problems before they cause production downtime.
The ink can also be replaced without interrupting production.

"The Cx350i performs well where some cardboard coding solutions may not." says Paul Clarke, Domino's inkjet product manager.
