L'Harmattan acquires the Gutenberg One printing robot

No stock or unsold books, in this bookstore the books are printed on the spot in a few minutes at the request of the customer.

The group l'Harmattan in collaboration with Gutenberg & Co has opened the first " librairie.one " in the 5 e arrondissement of Paris. This new kind of bookstore is equipped with the Gutenberg One printing robot.

"Neither dormant nor unsold stock, each book is printed on the spot, at the customer's request, in a few minutes and on recycled paper," explains the Harmattan group.

The smallest book printing plant in the world

Designed by Gutenberg & Co, the Gutenberg One robot can produce any book in minutes. Its robotic arm reproduces the gestures of the printer, the folding machine, the stitcher and the paper cutter, thus eliminating logistic costs and delays while solving storage and stock shortage problems. With a size of 2.4 m2 (3m2 floor space), it can be considered as the smallest printing plant in the world.

L'Harmattan will thus make available its entire editorial collection (including the catalog of Éditions Académia, EME, Fauves, Sutton...). In addition to the new 2021 titles already available, no less than 35,000 titles published in previous years will gradually be added to the catalog.

At the same time, Gutenberg & Co will enrich the catalog with works from other publishing houses. The Humensis group provides more than 7,000 titles from its catalog: PUF, Que-Sais-Je?, Belin éditeur, Belin éducation, Éditions du Pommier, Éditions de l'Observatoire, Éditions des Équateurs.

The Gutenberg One printing robot is currently available at L'Harmattan, and will be installed in bookstores, libraries, media libraries and book workshops.
