Study / Revoria: Fujifilm's strategy for redefining print-on-demand

Mark Lawn of Fujifilm Europe shares his analysis of market trends and Fujifilm's growing role in the print-on-demand market.

Print-on-demand is increasingly central to the strategies of press manufacturers. According to Mark Lawn, Head of Print-on-Demand Solutions at Fujifilm Europe, Fujifilm Europe, although new to the market, has established itself as a major player in this field thanks to the rapid expansion of its Revoria range of dry toner presses and its MFPs Apeos . In just a few years, he says, Fujifilm has developed a solid distribution network and a product range covering a broad spectrum of applications.

Ramping up in the European market

Fujifilm's entry into the European print-on-demand market dates back to July 2021, with the launch of the Revoria brand (the six-color Revoria PC1120 and the monochrome Revoria E1 Serie), in five countries. Today, this range has six models in addition to apeosPro C , is available in 26 countries and is enjoying sustained growth. Over 1,000 print-on-demand units installed including 200 Revoria PC1120, the brand's flagship model.

According to Mark Lawn, this success is based on a strategy of diversification and innovation. Fujifilm has introduced models for different market segments, from low-volume entry-level to high-end applications. The extension of the range with the Revoria EC2100S and SC285S last January has made 5-color printing more accessible, a market that remains to be conquered.

5-color printing: a lever for differentiation

Until now, five-color printing has been adopted mainly by large organizations with the resources to invest in this technology. Mark Lawn assures us that Fujifilm will change this dynamic by offering more accessible models. The new Revoria 5-color presses offer a fifth color channel for improved print quality and variety, with the option of on-site upgrades.

Studies conducted by What They Think in 2023 confirm that interest in 5-color printing grows with the size of printing facilities. By adapting its offer to a wider audience, Fujifilm aims to rebalance the market and give smaller companies access to technologies once reserved for the biggest players.

An ambitious growth strategy

With a rapidly expanding distribution network of over 100 partners in Europe, Fujifilm has high ambitions. The aim is to double the installed base by March 2026, from 1,000 to 2,000 units. This ramp-up is underpinned by a sustained product development policy, with regular innovations in toner and printing functionalities.

Among forthcoming advances, Fujifilm plans to introduce metallic toners on the Revoria EC2100S and SC285S models. Other developments are underway to enrich the range of specialized toners, enhancing the creative capabilities of printers.

Long-standing expertise at the service of innovation

While Fujifilm is perceived as a new brand in the European print-on-demand segment, it benefits from over 60 years' know-how in the development of dry toner technology. This expertise was exploited in the Asia-Pacific region before being deployed in Europe under its own brand.

Fujifilm relies on this technological heritage to position itself as a key player in the market. The introduction of new mid-range printers and the adoption of over 200 patented technologies enable it to differentiate itself in a competitive sector. The Japanese group intends to maintain this momentum with ongoing investment in R&D and an attentive ear to market needs.
