Among the different award categories of the European Carton Excellence Award, organized by Pro Carton, the "Save the Planet" award is given to the best carton packaging that has replaced or reduced a less sustainable material. This year's winner is the "PaperSeal Map Tray Burger Solution".
This packaging solution, touted as perfect for burgers, replaces the black or clear plastic hamburger trays traditionally used for modified atmosphere packaging. Made from virgin cardboard, it reduces plastic by 80% compared to traditional modified atmosphere trays. The paper base is designed to be easily removed from the barrier liner for recycling.
The packaging also has a printing surface that can be graphically printed on the inside and outside, thus providing opportunities for brand promotion.
"The package is aesthetically pleasing, has excellent design details, and by keeping the rounded corners of the previous package, it remains familiar to its customers. The package's clear inner liner and outer case are branded with the product and consumer messages." commented the competition jury.
