Big change to come in the Pantone color libraries of Adobe software

euros from March, the Pantone color libraries preloaded in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Adobe Color and Adobe Capture will be removed from the updates. Pantone explains it all to us.

Last November, Adobe quietly stated on its blog that the Pantone color libraries preloaded in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Adobe Color and Adobe Capture will be removed from future updates from March 2022. Faced with this terse statement, we asked Pantone to enlighten us on the reasons for this change and its consequences for graphic designers and printers.

"This removal comes from the fact that Pantone has not been able to actively update the Adobe library to make changes to color data or add new colors, unlike Quark and Corel software, as well as with many other software partners." explains the American group.

Users of existing files will still be able to access their colors by embedding the color data in their files. "They don't have to worry."

But when it comes to file creation, things get tougher.
Adobe software users will need to download the Pantone Connect extension from the Adobe Extension Marketplace and subscribe to Pantone Connect.

The free version of Pantone Connect, Pantone Connect Basic, unfortunately will not allow access to libraries from Adobe software. Pantone Connect will allow users to obtain updated color data. The full version, Pantone Connect Premium, costs 83.99 euros per year, at full price.

Pantone is currently working on a FAQ to answer all questions from Pantone users in Adobe.
