Avery Dennison invests in linerless labels

Avery Dennison has acquired intellectual property from a British company to offer a linerless label to its customers worldwide.

Label suppliers have been working for several years on reducing the environmental impact of adhesive label production. Solutions for recycling glassines are being developed, such as with the avery Dennison's European AD Circular system . But it is also possible to get to the source of the problem by removing the liner directly. With this in mind, Avery Dennison has acquired linerless label technology from the English company Catchpoint.

The acquisition covers Catchpoint's patents, trademark, trade secrets and know-how. The U.S. group says it will honor Catchpoint's existing commercial agreements.

The linerless labels reduce liner waste, but also the associated production and transportation costs, the group assures, which does not provide further information on the technology developed by Catchpoint.

"With the acquisition of Catchpoint, Avery Dennison will have intellectual property that will help us achieve two of our key 2030 sustainability goals: delivering innovations that advance the circular economy and reduce the environmental impact of production and technology." said Noel Kasmi, vice president marketing, labels and packaging materials, Avery Dennison, EMENA.

"We are looking to make linerless labels widely available to our customers. This technology will help us move faster." he adds.
