France's first Landa dedicated to packaging installed at FP Mercure

FP Mercure's production capacity constraints, which had reached their limits last year, have now been overcome thanks to the acquisition of its new press, a Landa S10.

France's third Landa press is installed. To increase its production capacity, FP Mercure has acquired a Landa S10 press. In January, the 27-employee cardboard packaging manufacturer based in Saint-Marcellin, Isère, welcomed the nanographic press configured for 7 colors plus varnish (acrylic or UV).

An 8-fold increase in production capacity compared with the previous press

The Landa S10, scheduled to go into production at the end of February, will be used to manufacture cardboard packaging. A first in France for a nanographic machine. It will complement the production of the HP Indigo 30,000, which arrived in 2017, and eventually replace it.
"The B1-format Landa offers a format twice the size of the Indigo and double the speed (6,500 sheets per hour). The Landa quadruples the capacity of the HP press" appreciates Frédéric Corbo, FP Mercure's CEO, who is already seeing the benefits of this increase. Having grown steadily since 2017, the company has forecast stable sales for 2023 compared with 2022, at 3.5 million euros, due to the full utilization of its machine park.

And by the end of the year, Landa will roll out an update that will further double production speed. "By 2025, we'll have eight times the capacity we have today, he enthuses.
"What's more, the speed of this press doesn't decrease with the number of colors printed. It will maintain its full speed, even with 7 colors and the same level of quality."

A wider range of brackets for the Landa S10

In addition to print speed, the Landa S10 can print on a wider range of weights: "We can go down to 100 g/m 2 (paper) and up to 800 g/m 2 which corresponds to nano-fluting (compared with 200 to 600 at present, Editor's note)."

Printing on thicker substrates will make it possible to meet customers' needs for packaging heavy products, such as champagne, wines and spirits, tools and DIY.
The double-size format also opens the door to box and countertop POP applications.

This nanographic press is just one part of FP Mercure's investment plan. We'll be sharing more details in a future article...
