Siegwerk strengthens its business activities in Italy and completes its portfolio.

German printing ink manufacturer Siegwerk has signed an agreement to acquire fellow Italian company La Sorgente. Founded in 1929, La Sorgente is one of Italy's largest flexographic printing ink manufacturers.

The family-owned company specializes in water-based flexographic inks for paper, board and plastic film applications, and solvent-based inks for flexible packaging and ribbons. Headed by Mario Magni, grandson of the founder, La Sorgente employs about 50 people and operates a production facility in Poppi, Italy.

The transaction includes the technical expertise, product portfolio and manufacturing equipment owned by La Sorgente. Siegwerk will continue to produce and serve its customers from the Poppi production site. After the completion of the transaction, La Sorgente will remain a separate entity that will retain its own brand and product names and the founder's family will continue to be part of the management team of the current Italian company.

The acquisition of La Sorgente follows other investments Siegwerk has made in recent years to strengthen its position as a full-line supplier of packaging inks.
