The launches of new more ecological inks follow one another these last months and these versions which reduce their impact on the environment concern any type of printing. After the sheet-fed offset made primarily of renewable raw materials from Heidelberg , ricoh's vegetable oil-based inkjet ink or flint ink that eliminates the drying of heatset printing siegwerk offers an environmentally friendly alternative to standard UV offset inks.

Called Sicura Litho Pack Eco, this series of inks includes a high content of biorenewable materials: more than 40 percent renewable and plant-based components, four times more than standard UV inks.

low odor, Sicura Litho Pack Eco "suitable for all non-food packaging applications where special attention is paid to environmental impact and packaging circularity" says the German ink producer.

In addition to vibrant colors and sharp dot gain, the new UV offset line would offer a very stable ink/water balance, even on long runs, as well as good ink film flexibility in post-processing.

"With 40 percent biorenewable content, it is not only comparable to some conventional oil-based inks, but also represents a new environmentally friendly alternative for UV offset printing, says Mustafa Guler, Vice President BU Sheetfed EMEA at Siegwerk. Its formulation is particularly designed for recycling and therefore to have no impact on the recyclability of paper and board substrates." Tests concerning the de-inking of paper and cardboard are in progress to specify this property.

The range is composed of CMYK inks, Pantone colors, base inks, special colors and flexo varnishes.
