Canon unveils PrismaElevate XL, an extension of the Prisma XL suite. The new software, which replaces Arizona Touchstone, offers large-format printers the ability to produce 3D prints with the Arizona 1300 and Arizona 2300 flatbed printers.
Now integrated into the Prisma XL suite, PrismaElevate XL allows for the creation of reliefs and textures in ink or varnish up to two millimeters, twice as large as with Touchstone, and at speeds 20% faster than the previous version.
With its preview functionality, PrismaElevate XL allows 3D design of relief printing projects without the need for test printing. A flatbed operator will not need additional training to use it.
The software uses Canon's Advanced Layer Printing System (ALPS) technology, which allows for the accumulation of high-resolution, full-color ink layers.
PrismaElevate XL, for high end and braille printing
For Mathew Faulkner, Canon Europe's Large Format Marketing and Innovation Manager, PrismaElevate XL is "ideal for giving a luxurious feel in high-end applications such as fine art prints and interior or exterior decorations" .
The 3D printing creation software can also be used for Braille applications. "The complexities of multi-layer processing and print file optimization are transparent to users, who can focus on making absolutely stunning relief prints." he says.
"Very easy" to create a 3D printing file according to CBB association
The Dutch association Christian Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBB), one of the largest Braille printing services in Europe, uses the Arizona Touchstone. 90% of the products printed on their Canon flatbed are prints enriched with a raised finish.
Andrea Haklander, CBB's Braille and Relief Manager states: "Previously, it was not possible to combine relief with fine structures or four-color printing, nor was it possible to print in relief on other materials. All of this is now possible.
Producing relief prints requires a certain amount of expertise, but with Touchstone creating the right file becomes very easy.
This file contains all the relief data the printer needs to print layer by layer, and that's how we can reduce our costs by 65 to 80 percent compared to the previous process. The print quality of Braille is much better than with other processes."
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator extensions are also available. PrismaElevate XL will be available for sale in July 2023.
